Education Information
Technology (Education IT)
What do you think of when you think
of technology? Computers? Tablets? Yes, this is what most people think about
when they think of the term technology. Well, now instead of only finding computers
and other devices in our homes, we are starting to see technological changes in
schools as well. These devices are being used to help further and strengthen
the education of children and students.
Technology in education and classrooms today consists of a
term known as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). BYOD has a lot to offer when
considering its usage in the classroom. Four ways that BYOD can have a
substantial impact on students in the classroom are:
1.
More student involvement
Allowing students to bring their
own device to the classroom opens a whole new set of doors. Students will be more
willing to get involved and more collaborative when participating in schoolwork.
Technology today is such a big part of the younger generation, so bringing
their devices to the classroom will engage them more than only a paper and
pencil.
2.
Cost friendly
The upfront cost of computers and tablets
may seem much greater than a textbook in the beginning, but in the long run,
textbooks will eventually have to be replaced which leads to textbooks
resulting in the higher cost. Furthermore, tablets last a lot longer than
textbooks.
3.
Educational Applications
Today there are thousands of
applications for the Ipad, Iphone and other tablets including many that are all
geared towards school use. It is great for visual and hands on learners who
need more than just a lecture from a teacher to fully understand the material.
4.
Fast and Easy
Ipads and Tablets are fast to turn
on and just as fast to open an application. They are easy to use and with the
number of students who own a mobile device, it is likely they already know how
to control the applications available.
With the use of Education information technology growing
more and more in today’s school systems, students are becoming more active in
the classroom and more engaged in learning. Education IT is very beneficial
because of the top four reasons which all show that it is a good implementation
for schools.
Now that you have learned a little bit about what Education
IT is, you can continue to read this blog to better understand how it is being
incorporated into the education of the future generation. What are your
thoughts on Education IT? Have you ever used it? Share your thoughts and
stories, we would love to hear about them!!
It is amazing how technology is making things very easy for us. My 65 year old father uses his iPad just as much as much as the kids. I believe introducing in classrooms is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI think using technology in the classroom is very beneficial as well. Since our society is moving towards greater technology, it is important that we teach students about these technologies and how to use them. It also creates a more interactive environment. In one of my other classes, we were able to use smartphones, laptops, and iPads to participate in different polls. I also agree that it is more engaging. I have two young cousins that live on their iPads. If they could learn with their iPads, they would be more much engaged I am sure.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I liked your idea of using Facetime during the presentation. I got confused when they just left the room in the middle of it.
ReplyDeleteI think this whole assignment with the blogs is a perfect example of how beneficial technology already is towards education. The potential seems endless when you think about taking notes on tablets and using apps to read books and take tests. All of that power comes with a lot of responsibility, and I think it's almost too tempting for students to check facebook or espn during class. I know eventually there will be great technological solutions that restrict what students can and can't do while at school and really do enhance their learning, but until then we should take baby steps and try to make sure we focus on the learning aspect of school more than the technology.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your presentation irregardless of the technical difficulties. In my adopted hometown where I went to high school, there is a great local example of education and information technology in the Mooresville Graded School District. They recently had the President in town speaking about its nationally recognized program that has done away with textbooks and given a apple laptop to every student. There was an informative documentary on PBS. You may find it interesting. And for a laugh youtube search "school wars phantom menace" Enjoy!

BYOD is a very interesting project, and very good idea, in my opinion, it is have more benefits like environment friendly, it will save a lot of paper if the computers and tablet replaced the paper textbook in our class. And it also will improve the technology development.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to using digital technology completely in classes. It was suffering to bring 2 or 3 hardcover books to school everyday. When using technology, you just have to download your text books as many as you need in your laptop or tablets, and just bring one device to class with everything you need. It also shows how technology benefits towards education. Moreover, it saves paper and contributes to saving the whole world environment.
ReplyDeleteMaking the switch from books to electronic books is a amazing switch. Its cheaper then buying books every semester, plus I always get ripped off when its time to sell books back because they only give you back about 1/3 of what you paid for the book then turn around and sell it for more. Besides that, all advances in the digital technology allows no one to fall behind on learning. In your presentation I liked how you showed the example of the student home sick and was still able to attend class, which is way better then the teachers sending home work that you have no idea how to do and have to figure it out and turn it in so that you wont fall behind or fail.
ReplyDeleteI believe that BYOD is a great idea. I think that as far as a college student goes it would save us a lot of money because textbooks are ridiculously expensive. I think that it would make these a lot easier and mobile because you wouldnt be carrying around heavy textbooks. Its amazing how far technology has come around and how much more user friendly they are becoming. My only concern would be how expensive they would be for students because not all students in public school would be able to afford it.

ReplyDeleteI think it’s great because before there where IPads there where laptops, and when I was in middle school and highs school I loved using them because I interacted with the content and it engaged me more. I can only imagine how these kids feel when they get to use IPads for the first time in the class room. The only thing I would think would be a problem is if a kid drops one and breaks one because these things aren’t cheap.
